Governance Advisory

Know what's really going on before your board signs off

Independent health and safety governance that gives your officers evidence they can stand behind, month after month.

Where most boards are stuck

The report looks fine. Is it true?

Most boards see health and safety through one page a month, written by the people whose work it reports on. That isn't a criticism of them, it's just how the information travels. By the time it reaches the board table the hard edges have usually been sanded off.

When did your board last see a critical risk report that someone independent had checked before it went in the pack?

Your officers carry a personal due diligence duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Meeting it means knowing what's actually happening at the coal face, not what the summary says is happening.

What's included

An independent view, every month

Monthly

Critical risk review

We look over your critical risk reporting before it goes to your board and tell you plainly what's solid and what needs a question asked.

Quarterly

Board paper

A short paper written for your board, showing what's working, what's not and what needs a decision.

Regular

Sessions with your H&S lead

Time with the person carrying the system day to day means problems surface early and they aren't carrying it on their own.

Regular

Time with your executive

A regular check-in with the leader who owns health and safety at the top of your organisation.

Built for the people who sign off

Governance Advisory suits directors, CEOs and general managers in mid to large New Zealand organisations in higher-risk sectors like manufacturing, construction and civil infrastructure. If you already have a health and safety lead and a system on paper and you want an independent set of eyes on whether it's working, this is where to start.

Need someone on the ground to build or run the system day to day? Our Implementation Partner service is the better fit and the two work well together. Explore Implementation Partner →

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from an audit?

An audit tells you where you stood on the day someone visited. Ongoing health and safety governance keeps watching month after month and picks up drift while it's still small. Your board isn't relying on a snapshot that's a year old.

Do you replace our health and safety lead?

No, we sit alongside them and your lead keeps running the system day to day, while we give the board an independent view of whether it's working. That takes a lot of the weight off their shoulders too.

How long is the commitment?

Engagements start with a six month minimum term and continue after that with 30 days notice, all set out in a short engagement letter before anything starts.

What does this mean for me personally as a director or officer?

Due diligence is a personal duty and it can't be handed to someone else, however it can be supported. An independent monthly view and a quarterly board paper help you show the reasonable steps you've taken to understand your risks and check your controls are working.

Where are you based?

We work with organisations right across New Zealand. Most governance work runs remotely and time on site is batched into planned visits when you want them.
