Systems don't run themselves

Ongoing support to make sure your health and safety system runs day to day, not just on paper.

Implementation & Governance

Capability on the ground. Governance at the top.

Your systems exist but aren't delivering. Or you can't find or keep the right health and safety person to run them. Either way, you don't need another consultant who visits once a month and leaves you to implement it. You need a dedicated practitioner, embedded in your business, doing the work.

That’s where we come in.

We place an experienced health and safety practitioner inside your business, working to our methodology and standards, backed by governance oversight. We start with an activation phase to drive the system into daily use, then move to an operational rhythm once the routines are self-sustaining.

This approach is best suited to leaders and officers in mid to large New Zealand organisations in higher-risk sectors like manufacturing, construction, civil infrastructure and property. As an officer, you carry a due diligence duty you can't personally verify from a distance. We help you close that gap and keep it closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Implementation & Governance, in plain terms?

It is ongoing support that sits at the top of the business rather than in the filing cabinet. We help leadership see what is actually happening with risk, decide what matters most and verify that the controls you rely on are working. Where you need someone on the ground to make it happen day to day, we place a practitioner into your business under our methodology. It is the difference between having a health and safety system and having one that works.

How is this different from hiring a health and safety consultant?

A consultant visits, writes a report and leaves you to implement it. That is where most health and safety work dies. This is a standing relationship. We are accountable for the work landing, not just for the advice being correct. Your leadership team has someone to call when a decision has consequences, your board gets reports it can act on and if you need capacity on the floor we provide it rather than adding it to somebody's already full role.

We already have a health and safety system. Why would we need this?

Most of the businesses we work with have a system. Usually a good one on paper. The problem is rarely the documents, it is the distance between what leadership believes is happening, what the documents say, what people actually do and what you could prove if you were asked. That gap grows quietly and it does not show up in a compliance audit. We work on closing it and on keeping it closed.

Who is this for, and who is it not for?

It suits businesses in higher risk industries that have grown faster than their systems, where health and safety has real consequences and leadership wants an honest picture rather than reassurance. It works best where the people at the top are genuinely engaged. It is not the right fit if you are looking for paperwork to satisfy a client or a pre-qualification, or if you want someone to take the problem away without leadership involvement. We will tell you early if we do not think we are the right firm for you.

What does a month actually look like?

A governance rhythm you can rely on. Regular contact with your leadership team, board or executive reporting that shows risk rather than just activity, verification that your critical risk controls are holding, and support when something significant happens. The exact shape depends on your size and your risk profile, and we set it out in writing before we start so nobody is guessing what they have bought.

Does Matt do the work, or does someone else?

Both, deliberately. Matt holds the governance and advisory relationship with your leadership. Where day to day capacity is needed we place a practitioner from our team, and every piece of work they produce is reviewed by Matt before it reaches you. That review is not optional and it is not a formality. It is how we keep the standard consistent with whoever is in the room.

What is an Implementation Partner placement?

A qualified health and safety practitioner embedded in your business, working to our methodology and carrying our standards. They are contracted to Advanced Safety rather than employed by you, so you get the capability without the recruitment risk or the overhead. You hold the final say on who takes the seat, we present a shortlist with a recommendation. Matt stays over the top as the governance and escalation layer.

How long is the commitment?

We agree on a minimum initial term so the work has time to land, and it is set out in the engagement letter before anything starts. Anything shorter than that tends to produce activity rather than change. After the initial term the arrangement continues month to month or steps down as your internal capability grows. The aim is for you to need us less over time, not more.

What does this mean for me personally as a director or officer?

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act you have a due diligence duty that sits with you personally and cannot be delegated. The 2024 conviction of a former chief executive over that duty made the point sharply. From 1 April 2027 the amended Act sharpens it further, moving the officer duty toward understanding your critical risks, ensuring the resources are there and verifying that controls are working. Verification is the word that matters. Believing something is under control is no longer enough. Much of what we do is building the evidence that lets you answer that question honestly.

Where are you based and do you travel?

We work with businesses across New Zealand. Most of the governance work runs remotely, and on site time is deliberately batched into multi day blocks rather than short reactive visits, which gets far more done and keeps your costs sensible. Where a placement is involved the practitioner is based near you.
